"Bloody Blue Paradise"
- Last chance for peace in Sri
Lanka, the war-torn island
In December 2003 a "peace army", composed of trained
civilians from around the world launched a three-year pilot project
at the invitation of local groups. While high-level peace negotiations
are underway, Sri Lanka is in danger of returning to armed conflict.
The field members of Peaceforce will provide protective presence
in vulnerable villages across the island and accompany individuals
and groups from all sides of the conflict when they are at risk
in peacekeeping activities.
The filmmakers visited all field members in December 2003, these
courageous people with various backgrounds and cultures do agree
to be accompanied by us. The project is planned as longterm observation.
The main focus will be to see which hopes and expectations motivate
these people for their delicate work. Will they be able to bring
this pilot project to a satisfying end or is there no hope at
all for growing peace in this region where more than 64.000 people
have been killed and 1.6 million displaced in the civil war ?
